About this Course

"Participants will meet a local drag performer and listen to a presentation on how their drag identity was built. Participants will then collage with assorted materials and supplies on a paper template to create a drag make-up look and/or a costume unique to themselves." Local drag performer, Chloe Kerrigan, is our guest presenter. She will bring examples of her handmade costumes, talk about herself, and about her process. The activity looks a lot like fashion collage on paper using various media. Other topics of conversation may include: - harmful gender normative stereotypes - what it means to perform gender - masking/imposter syndrome - how the portraits in the space may or may not be performing gender. - why gender performance is (or is not) an important part of queer identity. - queer expression and the consequences of repression - presenting self in a way that creates public identity. - using costume/clothing to emphasize or minimize gender stereotypes
